Delight Your Inner Artist By Painting Grandipity’s Polyester Tablecloth

Yep, we understand that you’re too busy to decorate your tabletop for your table setting, thinking about what table runner, flowers, candle, and the like that will match the event or whole set-up. Hence, little did you know that painting your plain tablecloths can also add a little bit of visual balance to a table setting without having extravagant tabletop accessories and they’re often just missed opportunities for décor. It's truly perfect to enhance the atmosphere at other tables such as escort, bar, gift, drink, dessert, DJ, picture booth and the like to make them serve a double purpose as tablecloths and decorations.

They’re genuinely the perfect canvases for telling your artistic side and can give guests a hint at who you are. That said, a plain tablecloth can also be intimidating for those same reasons. If you’ve been avoiding filling your plain tablecloth because you just aren’t sure what to use, now’s your chance to get some inspiration with 100 Layer Cake for finally checking this task off your decorating to-do list.

Prepare your supplies:

Grandipity tablecloths in whatever length you need

Blue painters tape

Freezer paper (If desired to paint anything other than straight lines)

Iron (if using freezer paper)

Fabric paint, in whatever colors you need (You can use Jacquard Textile Colors)

Paint brushes

Steps:

1. Your tablecloths should be pre-washed, dried, and, if used, tested.

2. Test all of your color combinations on the napkins, blending unique hues as necessary. Mixed a sizable batch in a big jar which was a mixture of yellow, red, and white.

3. Place the tablecloth on a surface that is covered. You can use layers of newspaper to secure the cover. The fabric will be penetrated by the paint.

4. Protect the areas you intend to paint with tape. You can plan out our layout concepts for each of the striped tablecloths in advance. You must iron freezer paper into place if you're using it (there are tons of tutorials for freezer paper stencils floating around – this one is nice and clear).

5. It’s painting time! Only one coat is required.

6. After around 30 minutes of setting up, gently raise the tablecloths off the covered table for a brief moment before setting them back down in the same spot. It may seem ridiculous, but if you let them dry completely without moving them at all, they will attach to the newspaper on the table.

7. Allow them to completely dry and then carefully pull the freezer paper or tape off.

8. To heat-set the paint, put them in the dryer on high for at least 20 minutes. This might change depending on the fabric paint you use, 100 Layer Cake suggests getting napkins to use as your test objects.
